Another gem to celebrate from the classic British film and TV era of the seventies and eighties: top model (with lots of risque related work), popular comedy star and acclaimed dramatic actress Wendy Richard, perhaps best known for playing the dippy Miss Brahms in BBC comedy hit Are You Being Served?, always showcasing stocking legs and a great figure, and as the older soap opera matriarch Pauline Fowler in eighties domestic drama EastEnders.
Around the middle of the last decade I stumbled into the wonderful world of female Pop music in the satellite nations of the former Soviet Bloc and ended up founding a couple of Blogs on the subject, inspired by those discoveries on the Web, eventually concentrating on the early/mid-1970s and especially in what was Czechoslovakia, the general one, 'Girls Of The Golden East' and the one specifically for the one who became my 'No. 1', Valérie Čižmárová, 'Bananas For Breakfast'. It really is quite something when the era of mini-skirts and mini-dresses and hot pants meets the women of Eastern and Central Europe! In casting around for various glamorous blonde bombshells with whom to compare Valérie Čižmárová - of the period and in times before, such as the great age of Hollywood and since, going up to the present day - one name that came up was Wendy Richard. I thought for quite some time that I might have been 'under-selling' Valérie Čižmárová, with Wendy Richard not being one of the big, internationally-known glamour gals, more a British small-screen star, but then, sometime last year, I encountered these jaw-dropping shots - especially the one of her on her knees, giving us the 'come on' with her eyes! - of Wendy Richard at the height of the Seventies and thought, "well, no, I'm not 'under-selling', obviously!" I also think the today's 'Birthday Girl Of The Golden East', Marcela Laiferová (77 today) - another sensational bombshell - had a touch of the Wendy Richards about her, at times.
ReplyDeleteI hope, if you drop by my Blogs, you'll be inspired to add a few new - very exotic! - names to this Blog!
BTW, I should check out Kristina Bazan sometime, the Belarus-born, Swiss-resident 'Internet It-Girl'. I was looking around for anything like the extremely sexy scalloped-hemmed black suede hot pants Valérie Čižmárová was wearing for the rear cover of her 1974-recorded, 1975-released eponymous album and found some photos of Kristina Bazan modelling something very similar back in her early days of Internet fame. Only the seriously 'smoking' should wear what I have dubbed 'Valinkas'!
