Originally describing the character as having "the looks of a porn star", it was clear in 1987 that STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION creator Gene Roddenberry had way different and sexier ideas planned for the new female doctor of the Enterprise beyond the mini-skirted Nurse Chapel of The Original Series. Certainly, the eventually cast actress/dancer Gates McFadden would prove a very sexy choice and presence in the show's first two episodes (especially The Naked Now, where her Dr. Crusher is infected by a water-like virus opening up some of her inhibitions) and in the Holodeck set episode The Big Goodbye, where she got to display some classy nyloned legs. Originally fired from the the show after accusing the series writers of blatant sexism, McFadden and Crusher returned for Season Three but things were never the same again, and I thought the character, though stronger and now better acted, had lost some of her earlier desirable charms...
